PROGRAMS OF DETACHMENT 14

 

The following programs are those which this Detachment has chosen to support locally. Not all are recognized and adopted as an official subsidiary organization by the national Marine Corps League.

 

Sanctioned Programs:

 

Scholarships - The Detachment provides scholarships to active and former Marines of the Detachment, and their immediate families. Scholarships are awarded on merit. Funds are paid directly to the vocational school or college of the recipient's choice. The primary requirement is that the person receiving the scholarship completes the course of instruction in a satisfactory manner.

Young Marines - The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through the completion of high school. The Young Marines promote the mental, moral and physical development of its’ members. The program focuses on character building, leadership and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. This program is recognized and adopted as an official subsidiary organization by the national Marine Corps League.

Non-Sanctioned Programs:

 

Boy Scouts - When requested of the Detachment, the Scout Liaison will award new Eagle Scouts a certificate of commendation signed by the National Commander during the induction ceremony held for same. This program is not recognized and adopted as an official subsidiary program by the national Marine Corps League, but is considered worthy of local support.

 

Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund - Provides severely wounded Marines from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with assistance the VA cannot provide to improve their quality of life. The Semper Fi Fund provides these Marines with financial help for such assistance as adaptive vehicles and housing modifications, specialized computer software and hardware. This program is not recognized and adopted as an official subsidiary organization by the national Marine Corps League, but is similar to Marines Helping Marines, Inc., which is a Marine Corps League sanctioned program.

 

Toys for Tots - The Toys for Tots program is normally administered by the Marine Reserve nationwide as directed by Headquarters, Marine Corps. Due to the Reserve unit in Fresno being moved to NAS, Lemoore, this Detachment has agreed to administer this program locally. This program is not recognized and adopted as an official subsidiary program by the national Marine Corps League.
